One senior officer that leaped to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a blade-wielder was granted the Royal Recognition for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he held a blade to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist after a traffic accident in the area in mid-2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.

"Policeman attacked," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his communication device.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording released by the agency showed Brown, wearing in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade extended.

He struck the officer who stumbled and went down to the ground, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the knife.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a safe opportunity, bringing the struggle to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide assistance on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sgt Ansell received two open wounds to his neck and additional cuts to his arms and body, whereas Sgt Foster received slash wounds.

The department stated Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his fellow officer's hemorrhaging before medical personnel arrived.

This most recent recognition comes subsequent to the three officers received internal Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local Police Federation in April 2024.

They additionally received a North West Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The responses of all three officers ultimately saved each other and resulted in no bystanders suffered any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, per authorities.
